From the Hotel to the Beach

From the Hotel to the Beach: A Guide to Discovering the Best Coves in Southern Menorca with Minura Hotels.

If there’s one thing that makes a holiday in Menorca truly special, it’s how easy it is to go straight from breakfast at the hotel to diving into the crystal-clear waters of the Mediterranean. White sand, limestone cliffs and pine forests that skirt the sea make the island’s southern coast a true paradise.

The Minura Cala Galdana and Minura Sur Menorca hotels are the ideal starting points for exploring this stunning setting. Whether you’re walking along the historic Camí de Cavalls, taking a water taxi or making use of our free minibus, here’s the perfect route from your bed to the sand.

1. Minura Sur Menorca: Family-Friendly Comfort and Car-Free Beaches

Staying at Minura Sur Menorca (Biniancolla) has one major advantage: you can completely forget about driving and looking for a parking space.

During the season, the hotel offers an exclusive, free minibus service that takes guests directly to two of the most popular beaches in the south-east. The bus drops you right by the beach: all you have to do is get off with your bag and enjoy yourself.

Punta Prima: Space and Views of the Illa del Aire

This is the family beach par excellence in south-eastern Menorca. It boasts a vast stretch of white sand, shallow, calm waters sheltered from the wind, and stunning views towards the lighthouse on Illa del Aire.

  • Facilities available: Sun lounger and parasol hire, showers, toilets, lifeguard service, accessibility ramps, supermarkets, beachfront dining and kayak/paddleboard hire.

Binibèquer: Turquoise Waters and a Seaside Flavour

Just a few minutes away on the hotel shuttle, Binibèquer combines a bathing area sheltered by a lush pine forest with proximity to the famous fishing village of Binibèquer Vell.

  • Facilities available: Beach bar, sun loungers, showers, lifeguards and nearby restaurants.
  • Tip: After a swim, lose yourself in the labyrinthine whitewashed alleyways of Binibèquer Vell before catching the minibus back.

Cala Biniancolla: Authenticity Just a Stone’s Throw from the Hotel

If you’re looking for a quick dip or the tranquillity of the sunset, Cala Biniancolla is just a few minutes’ walk from reception. It’s a tiny, traditional fishing cove with little fishermen’s cottages.

  • Facilities available: It retains its local character with no shops or parasols, ensuring a peaceful atmosphere throughout the summer.

2. Minura Cala Galdana: The Epicentre of the Most Famous Unspoilt Coves

Staying at the Minura Cala Galdana gives you a real advantage: you’re right on the shore of a spectacular bay and at the gateway to the most beautiful sections of the famous Camí de Cavalls, which circles the entire island.

Cala Galdana (beach): Comfort and Monumental Beauty

A magnificent horseshoe-shaped bay, sheltered by green cliffs and boasting calm waters just a few metres from the hotel.

The beach offers a full range of facilities, from lifeguards and showers to boat hire, sun loungers with parasols, souvenir shops, paddle surfing, beach bars with terraces and supermarkets.

Walking the Camí de Cavalls from the Hotel

The trails heading east and west wind through Mediterranean pine forests that provide plenty of shade, opening out periodically onto natural viewpoints overlooking the cliffs.

Western Route: Cala Macarella and Macarelleta

The trail starts at the western end of Cala Galdana (next to the footbridge). It’s a 25- to 35-minute walk along a mostly shaded path.

Macarella boasts turquoise waters surrounded by pine forest and features a beach bar and lifeguard service. A 10-minute walk along a path carved into the rock takes you to Cala Macarelleta, its unspoilt, naturist counterpart.

Eastern Route: Cala Mitjana and Cala Trebalúger

The walk: Skirting the coast eastwards, you’ll reach Cala Mitjana in about 20–25 minutes. To get to Cala Trebalúger, continue along the path for a further 25 minutes from Mitjana (about 50 minutes in total from the hotel).

Cala Mitjana is a natural white-sand cove surrounded by high cliffs.

Trebalúger, where a small ravine flows into the sea, is a wide, 100 per cent unspoilt, clean and peaceful beach. Neither of these two coves has beach bars, lifeguard services or commercial facilities.

Taxi Marítimo (Taximar): The Unspoilt Coves from the Water

If you’d rather avoid walking in the sun or wish to admire the coastline from the sea, a Maritime Taxi (Taximar)service operates from Cala Galdana beach.

A speedboat takes you along the coast, skirting cliffs and caves, until you disembark on the shores of unspoilt coves, including those that would be almost impossible to reach on foot.

  • Available routes: Connections to Macarella, Macarelleta, Trebalúger, Son Saura, Es Talaier, Cala Fustam and Cala Escorxada.
  • Usual prices: Around €30–€35 per person * (return ticket with around 4 to 5 hours’ stay on the beach).
  • Timetables and Operations: Morning departures (from 09:00) and coordinated return journeys in the afternoon. Runs daily during the summer season (subject to weather conditions).
  • Tip: It’s essential to book your place in advance during July and August.

Expert Tips for Your Day at the Beach

  • Hotel towels: Don’t take up space in your suitcase. Ask at reception at our hotels for the exclusive beach towelsfor guests.
  • Minibus timetables: If you’re staying at Minura Sur Menorca, check with reception for the shuttle service times to Punta Prima and Binibèquer. The service generally runs from 10.00 to 18.00 every 60 minutes, but this may vary.
  • Closed-toe footwear: Above all, if you’re planning to walk the Camí de Cavalls, avoid wearing rubber flip-flops for walking. Wear trainers or walking boots.
