What to bring to Menorca to enjoy your holidays.
One of the most tedious things about a holiday can be packing your suitcase. Due to time or space we always find some inconvenience and we leave something behind that we think will be indispensable. The days we are going to spend, the activities we want to do in Menorca, the time of the year… also have a lot of influence.
Here are a few tips to help you start your holiday off on the right foot.
Towels for the beach?
We provide them, so you don’t need to bring them.
In all our rooms we offer a hairdryer, but don’t expect it to be like the one you have at home, they are very simple hairdryers which, although they do their job, surely don’t have the power or the functionality of yours. As Menorca is an area with high humidity, it is advisable to take this into account to avoid frizziness. The water in Menorca is also very hard and therefore it is essential to use the right products to maintain the shine you usually have at home. Other tips to avoid frizz would be to use a wooden comb and an ionic hair dryer.
Paper or digital, of course, because the beach is a great place to read!
Menorca has the best unspoilt beaches you can imagine, crystal clear waters and a wonderful natural environment, which is precisely why there are no services such as beach bars or sun loungers and deckchairs. For these reasons we recommend that you buy an umbrella to be able to enjoy these beaches. There are many types of umbrellas, from the simplest to those that protect you from the sun’s rays, and you can buy them in any shop for an affordable price. We also recommend that you buy a mat to protect your towel from the sand and keep it clean when drying off.
Just like the umbrellas, unless you need special prescription glasses, it is more than advisable not to carry them and buy them in Menorca. You can’t miss the opportunity to discover the island underwater.
Depending on the time of year and the activities you want to do in Minorca, we recommend good footwear to go to the most remote beaches or to do sections of the Camí de Cavalls. For afternoon strolls around the ports of Mahón or Ciutadella or for shopping in Menorca, good sandals can be very useful, or better still, why not buy some fantastic Menorcan avarcas? You can opt for the rustic model or for more ‘up to date’ models and a multitude of colours and materials. Without a doubt, a pair of Menorcan avarcas is an unmistakable symbol that you are becoming a good Menorcan.
The particular orography of Menorca means that there are times, even in summer, when the nights get a little cooler. We recommend that in addition to your swimwear, you always bring some long-sleeved clothes for the nights in Menorca. For the rest, always wear comfortable, breathable, light-coloured and light-coloured clothes so that you can enjoy the island of Menorca without feeling stressed.
Finally, we recommend that you leave an empty space in your suitcase, you will always need space to bring back from Minorca some of its wonderful Mahón-Menorca cheese with protected designation of origin, an ensaimada or any of its sweets such as carquinyols or amargos, a pair of Menorcan avarcas and above all something that won’t take up any space in your suitcase, the feeling of having enjoyed a fantastic holiday and your batteries fully recharged.
